H.265, also known as High-Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), is a video compression standard used in digital video and multimedia applications. It is designed to compress video data to reduce the amount of data needed to store or transmit video while maintaining a high level of visual quality. H.265 is an improvement over the previous H.264 standard, offering up to 50% more compression efficiency. This means that H.265 can achieve the same level of visual quality as H.264 while using less data, resulting in smaller file sizes and faster transmission over networks. As a result, H.265 is widely used in digital TV, Blu-ray discs, and video streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
